BIENTANG:

A long time ago in the beautiful coastal town of Hermanus in South Africa, there was an old Bushman woman called Bientang, she was known as " Die Strand loper" (The beach Walker". She was known as a witch, an old crone, a medicine woman making herbal remedies to heal the sick animals who came to her. She swore at people who came near & protected all wild creatures & they never harmed her. Bientang lived in an enormous beautiful cave on the beach. This cave had fresh running water running down from the surrounding mountains which enabled her to grow her own vegetables. She had the gift of calling the whales inshore & they would come in to mate, breed, & care for their young before going on their way until the following mating season & the plaintive calling of Bientang. One day Bientang disappeared & was never seen again & nobody knows to this day where she went, but her spirit continues to call the whales who come every year to mate in front of Bientang´s cave, which today is a lovely restaurant where you can see the whales at play, & if you are attuned to the universe you may hear Bientang´s call. Was she a Bushman Goddess?
