SHE ONLY EVER WEPT IN THE RAIN:

An old woman now of many years,
Not once had anyone seen her tears,
She´d loved, wed & reared her sons,
She´d toiled hard beneath rain & sun,
She´d given all & yet she´d never gained,
No one ever knew, she only wept in the rain.

Now with opaque eye & rutted old face,
Homeless, she roams from place to place,
All those she´d once loved, had left & gone,
Walking in shadows, where sun once shone,
She is now bent, crippled & walks so lame,
No one ever knew, she only wept in the rain.

Dreams of youth, went & bent in her bones,
Folk said, her eyes were as dry as old stones,
But she knew, the rumours were never true,
It wasn’t shivering beneath cold morning dew,
Only the deep loneliness, was that of her pain,
No one ever knew, she only wept in the rain.
