SUGARED LOVE:

Such exquisite painful sweetness, intense, cloying & creamy,
Hilariously teenaged & hiccupped, blatant, burped & dreamy,
Sweet halcyon days, young puppy-loved, pink, sherbet & fizzy,
Moving on, forgetting youth, leaving us shaken, grainy & dizzy.

From lollipopped lovely rainbows, of those colours light & sunny,
Moving on to lemon drops, of new loves dipped in golden honey,
Smooth, satin & whirled, heated passion, darkly intense & deep,
Turning to burnt toffee, indigestible, trust begins to ooze & seep.

Passing time comes garbed in liquorice, biled, bitter & acrid black,
Acid drops so sour yelling, “this is love & there is no turning back”,
Where did all that sauce & juice go & all that sensual fruity zest?
Resting on our laurels, complacent, calm & feeling truly blessed.

In the fading years of confection, sugar-topped, white dusting iced,
When life is almost over & one´s been many years wed, & spliced,
The cloying sugar upon the tongue & within the old heart lies still,
One knows only too well, that it´s this love that coats life´s bitter pill.
