OKAVANGO:

The Delta comes and the Delta goes,
The Delta fills and the Delta spills,
In & out my dreams, the Delta flows,
Quenching thirst of jowl, jaw & bills,
Garbed in river reeds the Delta clads,
Okavango gowned in slimy greens,
Of swampy hems stitched in lilly-pads,
Where fish swim & pretty birds preen,
Home to the slippery crocodile,
Inviting all beasts to sup and sip,
Where the hippo yawns his sleepy smile,
And gazelles dainty-footed trip,
Lion, giraffe and elephant bath,
Fresh sweet grass and oasis mud cool,
Where the sun shines & the hyena laugh,
And for now, every creature has the pool,
But seasons change and the wind blows,
And the Okavango water disappears,
Leaving cracked mud where no water flows,
Bringing with it, what the beast most fears,
The meek crumble on bended hoof,
With every searing heat-filled day,
While unheeding Gods just stand aloof,
As the animals sadly walk away,
Knowing the Delta will return next season,
As they fly, trot and trip, skitter and plod,
They know the elements have their reason,
And put their faith and trust in Nature´s God.
