I was just a small puppy when you were mere babe,
I followed everywhere & together, joyfully
we played,
But my time came to leave you & to bid you
goodbye,
Now I´ll always be your guardian, so please do
not cry.
I now watch you from heaven, as you touch my old
lead,
Your tears on my frayed collar, tumble down in
soft beads,
And in your terrible sadness, I feel you patting
my old head,
You´re still stroking my fur, yet knowing that
I am dead.
Remember, when you tossed me a stick & old
rubber ball?
You still hear my paws padding, down long midnight
hall,
You call out my name & in spirit; I lick away
your sad tears,
One day we shall meet again, even, if I have to
wait years.
