Time, why have you abandoned him?
To the wheezing of winds & the cuddles of
coughs,
To fend upon the dross, discarded in life´s
troughs,
Why does he deserve this, what is it he has
done?
Doing merely his duty, to his country, wife
& sons.
Time, why have you abandoned him?
To the cold cruelty of age now spent, left
all alone,
To that hovel, ill afforded, he must now call
home,
At the mercy of the careless, he must now low
bend,
Tell me, why oh why, can no one, his care, now
tend?
Time, why have you abandoned him?
Please give him the dignity, that he rightly deserves,
Veteran who gave all to his nation, that he once
served,
All this gentleman asks now, in the silence of
his being,
Is that you stop awhile & recognize who you´re
seeing.
