AFRICAN CHRISTMAS:

Tinsel, baubles & Christmas lights on the tree?
No- pretty birds & buds of the chincherinchee,
Searching for Santa´s sleigh in skies up above?
No- only simplicity & for all of nature, love.

Cracker´s snaps, hearty cheers & carols duly sung?
No- bush fire´s crackle & diamonded stars low slung,
Over-feasting of food, fit for Princes, Knights & Kings?
No- nectar quaffed from the backs of butterfly’s wings.

Scented candles, pretty table, bows & hot mulled wine?
No- shining moon & just sipping dew, cold & icily divine,
The ox, the ass, the crib & babe lying in dim lit stable?
No- the elephant, lion, hyena & the long horned sable.

Celebrating the holy birth & coming of the Son of God?
Yes- and in Africa, all of new life born, of earth & sod,
Voices raised, above glasses clinking & snow that glisters?
No- only cicada´s songs & soft clicking of Bushmen´s whispers.
