No more smoking
& no more drinking,
In all these
years, what were we thinking?
Must start to
diet & lose some weight,
No more cakes
& chocs that lure like bait,
No fats, no
carbs, forget cheese & butter,
“NO”, the only
word that we shall utter.
As at every New
Year, we make resolutions,
Strategically
planned, life´s new revolutions,
Thinking we´ll
look like stars of film & screen,
Thin, beautiful,
healthy with skin of cream,
But, within a
day, a week, a month or three,
We shall be back
to where we used to be.
Exercise is what
we shall try & deem to do,
Running,
jogging, yoga & we´ll try Pilates too,
Expensive
subscriptions paid to clubs & gyms,
But through
their doorways, we hardly skim,
Stretching &
bending, in our new gear bought,
Lycra holding in
all our fat & flab, tight & taut.
But what if our
resolutions were of another kind?
To be caring to
others, & our own souls to find,
To be kinder,
more loving & less critical to boot,
Maybe this
revolution, would more people suit,
Offering a
smile, helping hand, or a listening ear,
Then maybe, we´d
all be happier in the coming year.
