The big-top
is now empty, sad, billowing & sagging,
The horses
now gone, dog´s tails no more wagging,
The sawdust
now stomped, trodden, sodden & flat,
The arena
seats empty where the children once sat.
Trumpeting of
elephants now silent, & all glitter gone,
Marching into
black night with whistle, drum & gong,
The echoing
of laughter slipping around canvas walls,
Where the
acrobat once tumbled but no longer falls.
Pierrot knows
the circus must go & now leave this town,
Move on to
where people await the smile of the clown,
But tonight´s
audience was special, not the usual show,
Recalling
that face in the crowd, now so sad he must go.
Their eyes
met through the crowds & the swirling of dust,
Auras flew
through the air & in that soft feeling they trust,
But both knew
that nobody can fall in love with the clown,
For tonight the
circus would leave, to new loves & new towns.
