WELSH BEAUTIES:

So many poets hold you in high esteem & such wonderful awe,
Bards waxing lyrical & in exaltation of your magnificent score,
But my beauties, do you really care, or do you even really know?
Or are you a just happy to sway in woods as the sweet winds blow?

Fields, woods & forests of sunshine & of swaying ancient Welsh gold,
Every little flower, to my proud Celtic bosom I embrace & tightly hold,
Across the green valleys, the echoing of the ancestors voices singing,
As joy in sunny petals goes fluttering in the breeze & fly away winging.

You are graced with the joyful, funny & giggling little buttered faces,
Garbed in skirts & bonnets, gowns of frilled hems in golden silky laces,
Conducting the plumed Eisteddfod´s choirs with batons of spring green,
No sounds sweeter resound through the valleys, no better one ever seen.

My little Welsh beauties, how I love you, my pretty sweet golden daffodils,
You´re more than just the blooms chasing away the icy winter time chills,
So hail to you my beauties & I shall toast you by raising my fecund flagon,
And thank the ancient Gods; I belong to the daffodil & the proud red dragon.

PARDON ME:

Pardon me if I take sips from your iced cold lips,
To remind me of what love is, before life lets slip,
Pardon me, for I´m but a tiny drop of morning dew,
Clinging to your soft silken petal on this day anew.

Pardon me if I take refuge within your fronded arms,
Reminding me, I too belonged to dawn’s dewy charms,
Pardon me please, for I am just a small & tiny little drop,
Who will disappear & die when the sun above gets hot.

Pardon me for taking liberties on this brand new day,
But my life is so short & I have to go soon & far away,
Pardon my impertinence & for my meddling presence,
I only hope I can repay you with sweet aurora´s essence.

Pardon me for staying with you, for just a very short time,
But my fate is in God´s hands & certainly not within mine,
Pardon me, for I´m no more than a little dawn dew drop,
And I´m damned if I stay, but also very damned if I cannot.

STRANGE:

Alerted one frosty morning by the sad howling of the cloistered hound,
Where upon the icy Abbey steps, the wicker basket, the old Abbot found,
There deep within, lay the baby snuggled & wrapped in a blanket of rose,
There she lay quiet without a sound, content in her state of sweet repose,
Blinking her eyes, of which she had one of slate grey & one of jade green,
The old Abbot said, “You’re the strangest creature that I have ever seen”.

She was finally adopted at three by a lonely couple of a fair advanced age,
She spent long days frolicking alone with the bees in fields of lilac & sage,
At school the other kids thought she was peculiar & somewhat very odd,
While she spoke of her imaginary friends who lived in that place with God,
But she was happy, playing with her pixies, goblins, the little elves & gnomes,
Insisting to everyone that these beings allowed her into their tiny wee homes.

The wily child grew into the mysterious maiden with the melancholic dreams,
Far-away expression on her face & always writing sad poetry in ribbony reams,
“She´s a strange one”, agreed her friends, everyone without exception, one & all,
This didn’t worry the maiden, without looking back; she just walked down the hall,
Going to the place where she heard the voices of the faces nobody had ever seen,
Unseen beings who were always close & unlike humans, were never ever mean.

Maidenhood ended & motherhood arrived, following the wedding band of gold,
With her babies’ arrival, the mother knew her heart would never again feel cold,
She took them with her on her fantastical journeys into to magical fairylands afar,
They all swam with nymphs & with sylphs they all flew away to the midnight stars,
She told her babies stories & showed them that there were many other worlds,
Beyond closed mind & blinkered eye, deep within the heart, waiting to be unfurled.

The mother became the strange old woman who was widowed & then lived alone,
With only a one eyed cat to keep her company & to share her small neat little home,
It was rumoured that she chanted with the Druids & that she casts dark & ugly spells,
And that from her blackened cauldron, there emitted strange, exotic & herbal smells,
They say she flies upon a broomstick to the midnight & faraway creamy round moon,
But the strange old woman just laughs loudly & then walks proudly out of the room.

Her children were called to her bedside, now her time to go was clearly very near,
Knowing she was going to die, she awaited death with patience, yet without any fear,
Her sons looked into her wise strange eyes, one of slate grey & the other jade green,
And they asked her, “Mother, what is in your eyes, what is it that you have just seen?”
She smiled & told them that she was off to rumble with Angels, far above in the sky,
“Earthlings are so strange”, she whispered, then she left this strange earth with a sigh.

NUANCE:

The whispering of curtains on a midnight breeze,
The ever so slight shiverings of the outside trees,
The passing of invisible lips upon my empty pillow,
The shadowed river caressed by the weeping willow.

Is it you just dropping in, or maybe only passing by?
Or just a fleeting feeling, gone in the blink of an eye?
On the bridge of my nuchal, your sweet warm breath,
Yet my love, & yet, you left me to run away with death.

The soft swirling mists come & then away they fly & go,
The soft form of you billowing in my candle´s soft glow,
The voice of love that I hear in my deep night´s dreams,
Is this merely my missing you within ethereal schemes?

The wispy cloudlets breaking free from God´s tight reins,
The footsteps in the hall as my ear eagerly awaits & strains,
Those warm arms that embrace me in the dead of the night,
Empty & yet those missing arms hold me so very near & tight.

A fragment of my imagination, your life I loved & yet now gone,
Leaving behind what? A feeling, a sense, a breath, a distant song?
Just a nuance, fleeting as a feather that came & then away it flew,
But I know deep down that you’re really with me & it´s really you.

HOME:

Who needs rooms of mortar, bricks, laminated doors & partitioned walls?
Not I,
For the dunes, moors, trees, stones & the forests are my airy & roomy halls,
Mountains, tors, stony hills & woods, keep me dry when the stormy rain falls.

Who needs roof of dome, thatch, tile & slate, concrete, tin or of pretty frieze?
Not I,
For I am covered by a canopy of loving leaves & protected by frilly hill-top trees,
Ceiling decorated by creamy moons, twinkling stars & the soft serenading breeze.

Who needs a front door of laminates, fancy bronzed knockers with tight lock & key?
Not I,
For I have the opening portals of the ancient standing stones & of welcoming old tree,
Just knock with good heart & a winsome smile, that´s all needed to be opened by me.

Who needs electricity, gas, heaters, hobs & ovens, central heating & fantastical stoves?
Not I,
For I am warmed by the soft gilded sunshine, dappling & warming my magical groves,
My lamps, chimney & hearth are dressed & dance in the golden beams of dusky rose.

Who needs water chlorinated & tapped, or plastically bottled in torrid green or blue?
Not I,
I have raindrops, snowflakes, swirling mists & dainty droplets of fresh morning dew,
Rivers rushing, streams streaming, brooks babbling, rivulets & crystal waterfalls too.

Who needs those carpets of wool, the silken mats & rugs, marble or polished linos?
Not I,
For I tread upon autumnal leaves & grasses where the sweet clover lives, lies & grows,
My carpet, the dewy mosses where I can frolic, dance & wiggle my summer-time toes.

Who needs night´s coverings of blankets in heavy wool, duvets & of flannelette sheet?
Not I,
For I am wrapped in the forest´s leafy arms & rocked to slumber within a floral pleat,
I need no fabrics of man, when enfolded by the webs spun by little spiders’ tiny feet.

My kingdom, my world, my house, & my space, it stands aloof, proud & totally alone,
Yes I,
Am blessed by the golden sun, creamy moon, rivers, trees, stars & the ancient stone,
And I welcome you within my humble abode & always welcoming, embracing home.
